Plans are underway for the annual Jasper Air Show to be
held on Saturday and Sunday, March 20th and March 21st at the Jasper County Bell
Field Airport. For the first time ever Jasper Air Show Coordinator, Debbie
Foster, and Liz Street, Executive Director of the Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn
Chamber of Commerce have decided to merge the Jasper Air Show and the Azalea
festival on the same weekend to help promote tourism in Jasper. The air show is
a two-day event while the Azalea Festival is on Saturday, March 20th from 9am –
4pm.
In addition to being a show of static displays of modern, vintage military and
civilian aircraft, including World War II Bombers and fighters from the Lone
Star Flight Museum of Galveston, Texas. These planes are the B-17 Bomber, F4U
Corsair, T-6, and the P-47. On Saturday and Sunday before and after the show,
sortie rides will be available on the B-17 for $425.00 and on the T-6 for
$290.00. Call 409-384-2626 for reservations.
Also coming to the show this year will be Billy Parker’s “Zero”, Karen
Brinkley’s “O-2”, and Rick Sharpe’s “Huey”. Paul Fiala will return this year in
his “Great Lakes” plane along with John McGillis in his acrobatic “Extra”. New

“Pitts” plane.
There will also be demonstrations of the Texas Heat Wave radio remote controlled
aircraft out of Dallas and Jasper Aero-modelers, Stu McCurdy’s R.V. Falcon
Flight formation, and Al Saylor’s Skydiver Jump Team. Static Display will
include Swamp Smith’s, from DeRidder, Louisiana, an L-19 and a Stearman.
Once again, a B-52 Bomber from Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana
will make a ground rumbling, heart racing flyover.
The Jasper Air Show will be dedicated in memory of volunteer and friend, Tom
O’Leary, also known as the ‘Bread Man” who died in an aviation accident last
year.
As always, lots of fun thing for the kids, a bounce by the Space Walk of Jasper,
Lakes Area Cruiser Classic Car Show on Sunday, and free airplane rides for
children, 8 -17 years of age provided by the EAA Chapter from Leesville,
Louisiana and Lufkin, Texas. Plus, plenty of delicious food ranging from
pork-a-bob’s, funnel cakes, sausage on a stick and ice- cream.
The air show gates will open on both days at 8:00 am and the show will begin at
2:00 pm on Saturday, and 1:00 pm on Sunday. Admission is $10.00 for Adults 13 &

or vise a versa.
