Berry Announces for Mayor of Hemphill

Rhoda W. Berry has announced her candidacy for Mayor of Hemphill Texas.

I moved to Sabine County in 1986, having lived in Precinct 2 in Fairmount for 19 years, and in Precinct 1 in the historic city of Hemphill since 2005.

I am a proud native Texan, having graduated from Port Neches/Groves High School, Port Arthur Business School, Lamar University with a degree in Management and Economics, and Delgado of New Orleans (I.D.).

My business background includes Bank Teller and Assistant Vice President, Paymaster of U.S. Plywood plant, Assistant Personnel Director of Southwest Chemical and I retired from E.I. DuPont with service in the Control & Engineering Departments.

East Texas is engrained in me, as my family are natives of Nacogdoches County.  My late husband and I moved to Sabine County because of the beauty and rural lifestyle it affords.  My parents, sister and family also lived in Sabine County during their retirement years.

My interests are in keeping the lakes, forests and history of the area alive and well.  Progress can be made without damaging these quality of life entities.

However, unless we are making progress and moving forward, we are not just standing still, we are moving backward.

We must Preserve, Protect and be Progressive with our many assets if we are to achieve the growth we must have to be successful.

Today the City is attracting new businesses.  But unless we provide the amenities of good water, improved streets, a business friendly environment and focus on tourism, we will not be standing still, we will be moving backward.

We must become business friendly and create the jobs that will enable our City to flourish, allowing our young people to have opportunities at home, rather than having to move away to find a decent job.

We stand to lose millions of dollars in grants unless we move and move fast to take advantage of these “gifts”.

I sincerely ask for your consideration and vote for Mayor of Hemphill and to help persuade the talented people that live in our City to join the fight to Preserve, Protect and Progress.

I have no background in politics, but I have a very long resume of community service and pride in our community.

I invite you to become a part of and participate in our City’s government to work for the Progress of Hemphill, Texas.
