Career Center Receives $40K from Beaumont Foundation

The Sabine Area Career Center in Pineland recently received a donation of $40,000 from the Beaumont Foundation to fund the Gilbert I. “Buddy” Low Scholarships at the center.

The money allows Junior and Senior high school students attending any of the five schools in Sabine or San Augustine County to enroll in concurrent education with Angelina Community College and receive college credit for the courses while still in high school.

These students, and beneficiaries, look on as Career Center Director Dr. Lana Comeaux holds the generous $40,000 donation by the Beaumont Foundation.  The money will be used to fund the Gilbert I. “Buddy” Low Scholarship which provides free college courses to eligible high school students in Sabine and San Augustine county schools.  ToledoChronicle.com photo

Since 2004, the concurrent enrollment at the Career Center has increased 1,000% from 13 students to over 130 students in 2009.

Eligible students who enroll after completion of their sophomore year can earn their college Associates Degree from Angelina Community College and have 60 college credits by the time they graduate high school.

An open meeting for Juniors, Seniors and their parents on concurrent enrollment will take place at the Career Center on April 6 at 6:00PM.  Eligible students and parents from West Sabine, Hemphill, Broaddus, Brookeland and San Augustine are welcomed.

Cost to the students is free.
